The problem
Battle Squadron was the Amiga 500 shooter: a canyon, a ship, more enemies than sense, and a warlord at the end. It was flat, because 1989 was flat.
The approach
This is the same game with a third axis. The canyon walls have height, the camera sits behind the ship, and everything that used to scroll towards you now flies at you. Same purple sky, though.
What it does
What is in: the title screen, flight down the canyon, primary fire, missiles and a detonate, enemy waves, pickups with a power bar along the bottom, scoring, pausing, and a warlord that announces itself before the fight. What is not: balance, sound worth mentioning, and any art that is not a placeholder.
Screenshots
Pre-alpha, so placeholder art and a lot of purple sky: the title, the canyon, a pickup, the warlord, the fight.
